Someone’s feeling a little camera shy.

And the award for the most unusual character outfit goes to…
Well, whatever this outfit is supposed to represent.
This was taken in the 90s, at Chef Mickey’s in Disney Village (today commonly known as Downtown Disney’s Marketplace). Remember, Chef Mickey’s was not a Contemporary Resort original, but located in a massive restaurant space where Rainforest Cafe currently resides.
What Pluto here is wearing… Search me. I honestly cannot say for sure what he’s suppose to be, but I have reason to believe it’s a funky swimsuit with goggles. The purple, teal-fringed “shirt” is likely the fur-tight swimsuit; if I can only see what the goldenrod logo and white title says… The goggles itself is bizarre since it looks similar to a welder’s eye protection gear. Here’s another pic of Pluto and the kid:
See how bizarre is the headgear? What kind of goggles are those anyway? They certainly will not prevent water leaking into your field of vision.
Note: The second my eyes glanced at this pic, my subconscious directed me to a previous reblog of mine depicting modern Tomorrowland Pluto. The space exploration suit has a certain reminiscence of this very outfit, something that I now cogitate: Did the space suit took SOME form of inspiration from this very outfit? If so, then it prolly isn’t a swimsuit, but a loud, pretend-play space suit. I prefer my swimsuit headcanon however, so it shall remain unchanged.

There is nothing in this picture’s tags on Flickr that support the year this was taken, but it’s obvious that this was taken at the Disney-MGM Studios (the original name of Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the time, for the young whippersnappers). I’d surmise it’d have been in the early 90s, noting the teal blue TMNT tee the kid’s wearing and the nerdy hat/glasses combo of the elder brother.
But clearly the star of this pic is wearing a jacket I haven’t recalled anywhere else. It’s a nice, snug 90s sports jacket; perhaps the same varsity jacket one wears at a exciting football game. The hat is kiddie by nature, two tones of red and blue pinwheel-inspired. And what I can only assume his collar tag by his tongue, instead of a jacket logo. If only a shot of the backside was available…
Overall, a wonderfully casual outfit. I wish Pluto would wear a similar getup rather than his his current stereotypical canine selection of collars. A much-needed alternative indeed.
