September 5, 2018 marks Disney’s beloved canine Pluto’s 88th birthday. An integral part of Disney’s ‘Sensational Six’—Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto—this bloodhound is not like other Disney characters. The naive yet cute dog speaks a lot with his expressions and this is the reason he continues to be an important part of so many childhoods.
We know him, yet we don’t. So here are some fun facts about birthday boy Pluto –
1. This lovable pet is known for his antics that are enough to make anyone laugh. He first appeared in The Chain Gang along with Mickey Mouse but it was in Moose Hunt that Pluto became himself and has since been known as Mickey’s best pal and his dog.
2. While Pluto doesn’t talk he does have distinctive sounds and there are voice actors needed to voice him. The original voice of Pluto was Pinto Colvig; followed by Lee Miller Sr, Clarence Nash and James MacDonald. The current ‘voice’ of Pluto is Bill Farmer
3. He acts as Mickey’s sidekick, conscience in some occasions, adorable pet and more importantly, his best friend. He is extremely loyal . Pluto is also famous for his powerful sense of smell. According to Mickey, Pluto can find anything and anybody with his nose. He is often paired with Mickey, Minnie, Donald or Chip and Dale.
4. He is, however, not too fond of cats and his frequent feline co-star is Minnie’s cat Figaro. While intelligent enough, Pluto can be a bit clumsy and has a childlike persona. Pluto was initially a minor character before he was given his own standalone – Playful Pluto. The only thing ever said by Pluto is Kiss me
