Actually, Pluto was rethought because thousands of identical planets were found, and getting children to remember thousands of planets at school is stoo pid. So the IAU? began work on another definition for “planet”. As it stands, there are a few different types of planets, Terrestrial Planets (Earth, Mars, the entire inner solar system), Gas Planets (Jupiter, Saturn, most of the outer solar system), and Dwarf Planets (Pluto, Ceres, small rocky bodies).
